Yesterday as my coworkers and I left the office to go to a work party for some quality BBQ action, we noticed the large pond adjecent our office complex was frozen over. I decided for the hell of it to try skipping a stone on it. Not only did the ice not break, but it made the awesomest sound I've ever heard with each hit. It was like a hollow chirp and I'm not sure if it's the water below or building echo or a combination of the two...but it was hella fun. We skipped stones for a good 5 or 10 minutes on our frozen pond before leaving.

My blessed Gentoo box, whose uptime was a pristine 125 days...made possible only by an on-UPS move from my prior residence less than a month ago...finally lost its uptime yesterday. External factors were involved. There were some large and lengthly power outages Monday through this morning and the UPS only lasted an hour (still damn good). I tried moving it on UPS again, but it gave out in transit... which is just as well, since the location it was heading to then lost power for 3 hours too.
I can only hope that some day I will surpass this uptime number... maybe I should buy a backup generator.

As Slashdot informed me today, The Creator of Ramen died on January 5th :(
I had to eat ramen as a comfort-food and out of remembrance to the fine man who brought us such goodness once I heard the news.
Get those chopsticks out and have a bowl!

In a world full of hunger...one man helps to sate the masses. His name is pizza man, and I met him two weekends ago.

Last weekend I drove up to Toronto with Sarah. It was a blast, with tons of great sights, food, and movies.
This post is a placeholder until I edit and show the rest of the story. For now, there are a few pics up on flickr

I just got back from this year's Otakon last night and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.
The best costumes that I saw:
- two ph33rbots
- a group of 3 people all dressed as pikmin
- a guy dressed up as Dread Pirate Roberts, complete with giant rat!
- Captain Planet
- A zombie that was hilarious at the "How to survive a zombie apocalypse" panel...if it wasn't for him, the whole thing would have sucked.
The best things we made it to was the 35mm, by far. We saw Akira, Princess Mononoke, and Howl's Moving Castle all on the big screen. We missed Totoro because I was busy at the art auction.
I won a nice Bleach print at the art auction, refused to bid over $100 on a nice Yakitate print, and from the silent auction won a ceramic (I think) Kodama on a log.
The biggest surprise at the con is a little game we found called Twinkle Star Sprites. It kicks ass, and it's hilarious that the two TVs with it were constantly filled by guys, not girls...as it's a very girly game that we sadly got quickly addicted to.
More to come.

This is a placeholder where I will eventually tell you about my trip to NYC July 21-23 to go to the HOPE (Hackers on Planet Earth) conference. It was quite an excellent time.
